That is why, based on our sustainability strategy, we want to gradually improve our ecological footprint step by step.

Our claim

We bring people together: at the cake table, at the breakfast table, in small or large groups. With our cakes, pastries and rolls, we give them a lasting experience of pleasure.

We also want to create a pleasant working environment for our employees.

We guarantee quality at the highest level and pay attention to sustainability and fair production conditions.

Right from the start, our products are produced without any added preservatives. We only use cold to preserve them!

We also want to know exactly what our raw materials are and use resources sparingly.

We believe that sustainability is like baking. The whole is more than the sum of its parts. And every ingredient counts!

    Waste Reduction

    For us, resource-saving action also means avoiding or reducing food waste generated during production as much as possible. A good example of this is our enhanced apple peeling system, which allows us to reduce peeling waste to 5 percent. By 2025, we aim to reduce our direct food waste by at least 25 percent.

    Climate Protection

    Our goal is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent by 2030 compared to the base year 2021.

    We are on the right track:

    • Since the end of 2023, a photovoltaic system at our Mettingen site has enabled us to cover the base load for powering the buildings on-site with solar energy.

    • Through installed heat pumps and heat recovery systems, we can also use excess energy from production to heat our office buildings.

    • Furthermore, to support more climate-friendly mobility, our Mettingen plant offers 24 charging points for electric cars.
    • Since 2023, we have been sourcing green electricity for the power we (still) cannot produce ourselves.

    Raw materials

    We focus on long-term and fair supplier relationships. We obtain around 60 percent of our raw materials from regional sources, excluding exotic fruits. For example, our apples primarily come from the “Altes Land” region near Hamburg. When it comes to palm oil and cocoa, we only buy sustainably certified products.

Diversity

We are proud that colleagues from over 50 nations have found their professional home with us. Because everyone finds their place with us and can contribute their individual skills.

We believe that this is the only way to create quality, innovation and ideas.

In our “learning workshop”, we give around 60 colleagues without a school-leaving or training qualification the chance to take on a responsible position in our confectionery every year through targeted internal training.

Compatibility

Our origins as a family business are the basis for our vibrant corporate culture.

The compatibility of work and family is very important to us!

To this end, we offer hybrid working models in administration, among other things.

In production, where it is not possible to work from home, we try to ease the burden on families through long-term staff scheduling.

Safety at work

Occupational safety is a top priority for us!

We want our employees to be able to always work in a safe and healthy manner.

To this end, we carry out various training courses every year, regularly prepare risk assessments and procure safe work equipment on a permanent basis. In the medium term, we are aiming for certification (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 45001) for our occupational health and safety management system.

Film packaging

For years, we have been systematically reducing the thickness of the films we use in production, while ensuring that protection and hygiene remain guaranteed.

Further measures include: Partially dispensing with so-called shrink film, changing packaging materials and increasing the proportion of recycled material. Our goal is to make all our packaging material 100% recyclable by the end of 2025.

Product development

We support a more conscious approach to consumer enjoyment and aim to reduce sugar, salt and saturated fatty acids as far as possible while maintaining the best taste. For example, we have set ourselves various lower target values for these different nutritional values for our new product development. Existing products are also being gradually optimized in this respect.
